NEXT/FMGE EXAM

The NMC introduced the FMGE/ NEXT Exam for foreign medical graduates and it is a licensing test for students to practice in India. This exam is conducted for the applicants who have completed an MBBS degree from foreign medical universities.

It is a centralized common exam for all medical graduates, applicants need to qualify to practice or join the postgraduate program in medicine. The main to conduct the examination is to meet the following needs,

    Applicants can apply for PG Medical programs like MD, MS, etc.

    Students need to qualify for the NEXT Exam only rather than FMGE Exam or NEET PG exam.

The NMC is proposed to replace the FMGE exam & NEET PG with the National Exit Test (NEXT Exam) and it will count as the qualifying final exam for MBBS students. Applicants need to get a good NEXT Exam Score which is used for MD or MS Admission or other postgraduate medical courses. Basically, it is the most important examination for Indian applicants as well as foreign medical students.

FMGE/NEXT Exam Eligibility

Whether you are an Indian Medical Student or Foreign Medical Student, you just need to meet the below FMGE/NEXT Exam Eligibility to take the examination. If any of the students fail to meet the below-mentioned criteria, then they are not eligible to take the exam.

    Candidate should be an Indian or overseas citizen of India.

    Candidate should have passed or qualified the MBBS program from any Indian medical university or foreign medical university.

FMGE/NEXT Exam Application Process

The NEXT Exam Application Process is still in the proposal, as it is proposed by the NBE that the FMGE exam will be replaced by the NEXT exam. NEXT/FMGE Exam Centers

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has proposed the NEXT Exam Centers for students. As per the sources the test centers are held in over 40 cities in the country. Applicants can choose the exam center according to their convenience and preference while applying for the NEXT Examination.

NEXT/FMGE Exam Syllabus

The NEXT Exam Syllabus includes all the subjects that appear during the MBBS program. Basically, the NEXT Exam is conducted in two phases NEXT-1 and NEXT-2, the NEXT-1 is an online test and NEXT-2 is a practical exam. FMGE/NEXT Exam Pattern

The NEXT Exam Pattern for the examination is still in the proposal and NBE will declare the final pattern soon. It is suggested that the test is conducted in two phases NEXT-1 and NEXT-2. The NEXT-1 phase is totally MCQs based questions while the NEXT-2 covers the Oral and Practical based questions. Check below the proposed exam pattern for the examination. The official announcement about the NEXT pattern will be declared by the NMC, NBE, or NTA soon.

  • NEXT-1

     Conducted for final year aspirants.

     It is an online-based MCQs examination.

     Valid up to next 2-3 years.

     The Next-1 score is used for PG Admission.

     If you fail the Next -1, you are not eligible to participate in the internship program.

     You can re-appear for the examination.

  • NEXT-2

     Who qualifies the NEXT-1 can appear for NEXT-2.

     It is a Practical exam to check the basic practical knowledge.

     After passing the examination you will get the license to practice in India or you can apply for a postgraduate program in medicine.

  • Q1. How many questions are appearing in the FMGE/ NEXT Exam?

      According to the proposed NEXT Exam Syllabus, there are a total of 540 questions asked in the examination. For each correct answer, applicants get +4 marks while for each wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted from the score.

  • Q2. What is the passing percentage for the NEXT Examination?

      Applicants who appear in the National Exit Test will pass only if they successfully score above 50% of marks in the examination. The final result is declared by the NBE on the official website candidates can the result from there.

  • Q3. Is the NEXT Exam tougher than the NEET PG exam?

      No, the NEXT Exam is not tougher than the NEET PG Exam. It is just to produce the more skillful doctors with better practical and clinical knowledge. However, the complete examination process will increase the time duration of medical education.

  • Q4. Is there any negative marking in the NEXT Examination?

      It is not official yet that NEXT Exam would include the negative marking for each wrong answer. However, it is similar to the NEET PG Exam and follows the same marking system.

      If you are unable to pass the NEXT-1 exam you are not eligible to enter the internship and need to wait for the next year. Furthermore, if you fail the NEXT-2 exam, you will not receive your MBBS degree and you are not able to enroll in the PG Medical program. You need to repeat the final year MBBS and then again take the NEXT Exam.
